Do you constantly feel like all you can do is worry about the future? Like you are right there at the edge of what you should be doing but can quite get there? It’s possible that you are stuck in a future that has not yet begun, and this isn’t necessarily a good thing.
What It Means To Be Stuck In The Future
You have probably heard of people being stuck in the past. But when it comes to being stuck in the future, you may have no idea what this means. Well just like being stuck in the past means you spend too much time thinking about the past, being stuck in the future means you spend too much time thinking about the future. And not in a good way.
When you spend all of your time worrying about the future, this can not only cause stress and anxiety but this can also lead to you missing things that are happening in the present. And before you know it, you will wake up one day to find that your whole life has passed you by.
Why Are You Stuck In The Future?
In order to be able to focus more on the present, you need to figure out why you are stuck in the future. And often times this happens because you are never content with what you have. And unfortunately, if you aren’t content now, it is highly unlikely that you will be content some day in the future, even if you do achieve the things you dream of. This is because being content is a state of mind, not something that comes from physical possessions.
Additionally, another reason you could be stuck in the future is because your expectations are never met. Of course it’s a good thing to have high expectations, but make sure they are realistic too. For example, many women get caught up in finding the perfect man, well, sorry to break it to you but he doesn’t exist. All men have flaws, so if you meet a man who loves you and treats you right, then it’s probably okay to settle for him as “the one.”
How You Can Stop Being Stuck In The Future
Worrying about the future is a habit engrained in people since they were young children, and it can be difficult to let go of the idea that you need to constantly work towards a perfect future. The best way to remedy this worry about the future, is to focus on enjoying the small things in life.
This means instead of constantly focusing on what could be months and years away, focus on small wins you are making now. For example, maybe your far-off dream is to become a famous author, well, focus on getting a poem published now and rejoice when it happens. Even though it won’t make you rich, it is still a small feat that you should rejoice and enjoy in the moment, because you never know when life may change!
Overall, it can be quite common to find yourself stuck in a future that hasn’t started, and probably won’t for a while. And while it is okay to have future goals, focusing too much on what hasn’t happened can make you miss the amazing things that are happening in the here and the now. So take a break from worrying about the future for a second, and decide to dwell in the present instead. You might even end up enjoying the things that you find in your life in the present.
